Should I...?

Reactions:
...or should I not? Perhaps you remember some early post of mine about a seminar paper discussion chitinozoan finds in phyllites of the Erzgebirge. At the end of september this year there will be a conference - GeoDresden2009 - of the DGG (German Geological Association) in Dresden. Beautiful town by the way! The theme of my seminar paper would fit perfectly to the regional theme of the conference in my opinion though I am a litte...actually very nervous about attending and having a poster. I never did that before and I don't know if my little "investigation" is thorough enough and of sufficient quality. There are only 5 thin-sections and only one of them has a handful of microfossils in them. Being burried in work for my diploma mapping and hopefully in 1 month in my thesis I won't have time to go back to the samples and make new sections. So I basicly need to use what's in my seminar paper unless I get a hold of some old papers I've been looking for for months. Deadline for submission is May 31st.

Any advice?

You should do it! It is worth all the work and might be a good experience. This is always a good way to get your first publication.

Do it! If you've never done it before, it'll be a good learning experience. You will also get to meet people, which is important.

Go for it! I think it is a remarkable occurence and worth introducing to a related community.

Meetings are fun and Geologists are nice people in most cases. At the conferences I already had, I got in touch with many people and without my last meeting I would not have been able to get my current PhD-ship.

Thanks a lot for our supporting answers! I just downloaded the application form. It just happens to feel very different to actually make a contribution and not just be a quiet listener like at the two meetings I attended last year. I should start compiling the abstract now.

Just Do It Man!!! You don't have to be afraid. Is not really important how brilliant is gonna be your work, the important thing is that you are going to get a wonderful experience!!. Lat year I also had the same problem, I did it, and i did one of my best presentation on the World Geological Congress. If I did it, you can do it!!!!!

Greetings from Peru
